JOB SUMMARY:
The selected candidate will be responsible for tasks associated with the detailed engineering design of high voltage (Transmission 69 - 500 kV) power line projects. These projects are to include entire new facilities, as well as major additions, rehabilitation, replacement, clearance, and reconductoring of existing electric power lines. The position will also require occasional field site visits for data collection and verification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

In either a supporting or lead role, responsible for the identification of engineering requirements

As required, may function as a project lead or responsible engineer.

Performs tasks and produces engineering calculations, documents, and designs for conceptual and detailed phases of engineering under the direction of the project lead or responsible engineer.

As required, may produce (or review) documents and drawings to support client requirements to support efforts in permitting or otherwise supporting construction and constructability requirements.

Reviews vendor drawings, calculations and specifications for design and project compliance.

Coordinates with the project lead or responsible engineer to determine the format and creation of project deliverables , documents and drawings.

Coordinates with or directs others to produce supporting drawings and drafting requirements.

Communicates with stakeholders both internally and externally to resolve and address project interfaces.

Applies and incorporates industry best practices, client standards and client direction into design documents and drawing(s).

Documents client interactions and changes to the project scope, schedule, or budget.

Periodically conducts field visits to collect data (5-10% travel).

Works with client and/or construction contractors to develop best design.

Proofs in-house engineering projects – Attention to detail required.

Performs administrative tasks to support project maintenance as related to scope, schedule, and budget.

Complies with project requirements to support the collection and storage of electronic project files within the department.
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-
Attend work as schedule, for up to 8 hours at a time, 5 days a week in PowerWright Office or designated assigned work location.

Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.

Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time.

Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified.

Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner.

Exhibit and maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
4-7 years of experience in designing transmission lines.
-
BS degree in civil/structural, electrical engineering, or related discipline (required).
-
Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) or P.E. preferred.
-
Demonstrated the ability to review, understand, and apply industry standards and practices with practical work experience.
-
Ability and prior experience reviewing and interpreting on-line drawings or similar system level drawings.
-
Prior experience applying industry requirements and considerations for overhead transmission lines.
-
Prior experience determining and producing project deliverables for overhead transmission projects.
-
Experience and familiarity with the following standards required: NESC, ANSI-05.1. ASCE 48, ASCE 10, ACT-117, and ACI-318 and OSHA.

Must have prior experience creating plan and profile drawings, structure framings, phasing drawings, and other instruments common to the utility industry.

Working knowledge of related disciplines and the ability to identify and discuss interface points between internal or external teams (e.g. ROW, Permitting, Geotechnical, Substation Design, etc.).

Structural design, geotechnical design, utility design and/or prior construction experience preferred.
-
Ability to product, or review sketches, and drawings using AutoCAD or Microstation and/or Bluebeam.

Experience and ability with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, MS-Office family of software is required.

Experience with the following software packages is preferred: PLS-Tower, PLS-Caisson, MFAD, LPile, STAAD, Mathcad and VIbrec.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Prior experience as a project lead is preferred.

TRAVEL:
This position may require travel to client’s offices approximately 5-10% of the time. The person is this position may be required to drive an automobile. Travel may be necessary by automobile (as a driver or a passenger) or by airplane.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This job operates in a professional office environment requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, electronic devices such as tablets, printers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets as well as use of standard office applications such as MS Office (including extensive use of video communication and collaboration platform), and internet based filing system.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to clearly communicate, talk and hear. The employee is frequently requested to sit, stand and walk including walking unassisted for a minimum of 500 meters to perform field visits/field assignments. Manual dexterity is required. The wearing and use of client and company specified PPE is required. Some light physical effort is required.
