JOB SUMMARY:

This is an entry-level technician working in Electric Utility Substation (Protection & Controls) Design.  The selected candidate will be responsible for the detailed electrical schematic design for high voltage substation protection & control projects. These projects may require a minimal amount of site visits for data collection and verification.  An intense training program will be available for the qualified candidate. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Obtains and interprets various electrical diagram drawings for components associated with an electrical power substation and use the information to complete point to point wiring on these drawings

  • Obtains, interprets and utilizes information from client’s information database to verify, modify or analyze information from upper level engineering staff or from the field to carry out point to point wiring

  • Obtains and interprets elementary drawings for client’s protection and control equipment and utilize information to verify or modify remotes, wiring or other related drawings

  • Obtains and interprets information on panels, relay racks or other arrangement drawings and modify or relate to panels, relay racks or other wiring diagrams

  • Designs the installation of new equipment (i.e. pole mounted cameras, Relay racks, AC & DC load centers, etc.) within an electrical power substation

  • Understands and utilizes the concept of representing; additions, removals and modification of devices, circuits and equipment on client’s drawings

  • Carries out other wiring activities related to but not limited to those mentioned above

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attends work as scheduled, for up to 8 hours at a time, 5 days a week, in a remote location within the United States.

  • Prompt and regular attendance at all work related meeting (virtual or in-person)

  • Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified

  • Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner

  • Ability to manage and enhance current and future client relationships

  • Ability to aid in all Transmission and Distribution business development efforts

  • Exhibit and maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties

  • Ability to receive and understand directions from supervision and management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Very familiar with electrical schematics, designs, and symbols

  • 1-2 years of experience in a technical industry (utility industry experience is a plus)

  • At least a 2 year technical degree

  • Utility and/or consulting engineering firm experience is a plus

  • AutoCAD or Microsoft experience is a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • High attention to details is required 

  • Ability to work independently and think analytically

  • Work as a strong team player

  • Effective time management and logical decision-making ability

  • Strong focus on quality

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct reports.

TRAVEL:

This position requires minimal travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This job operates in a professional office environment requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, electronic devices such as tablets, printers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets as well as use of standard office applications such as MS Office (including extensive use of video communication and collaboration platform), and internet based filing system.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to clearly communicate, talk and hear. The employee is frequently requested to sit, stand and walk including walking unassisted for a minimum of 500 meters to perform field visits/field assignments. Manual dexterity is required. The wearing and use of client and company specified PPE is required. Some light physical effort is required.
