Job Summary:

Electric Utility Substation (Protection & Controls) Design

The selected candidate will be responsible for the detailed electrical schematic design for high voltage substation protection & control projects. These projects may require a minimal amount of site visits for data collection and verification.

Essential Functions

  • Obtain and interpret philosophy, AC and DC elementary drawings and apply information to remotes, wiring, and other related drawings.
  • Obtain and interpret manufacturer’s drawings and use information obtained to complete point to point wiring on elementary, remotes, wiring and other drawings.
  • Obtain interpret and utilize information from client’s information database to verify, modify or analyze information received from the field to carry out all necessary engineering and point to point wiring.
  • Obtain and interpret elementary drawings for client’s protection and control equipment and utilize information to verify or modify remotes, wiring or other related engineering drawings.
  • Carry out other engineering/wiring activities related to but not limited to those mentioned above.
  • Develop designs that establish and maintain proper clearance requirements for High Voltage Equipment and the safe work practices as established by the NESC and OSHA.
  • Liaise with relevant engineers or specialists to verify client’s requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to less experienced technician(s) (Engineering I or II)
  • Provide technical assistance and training to less experienced engineer(s) (Sr. Engineer)
  • Complete protection and control system design including development of complete engineering design package for protection/control and communication including one-line, three-line, DC and AC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnection diagrams.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Very familiar with electrical schematics, designs, and symbols.
  • 5+ years of experience in the P&C engineering industry.
  • At least a 4 year Engineering degree. Professional License (PE) is a plus.
  • Field Experience is a plus
  • Utility and/or consulting engineering firm experience is a plus
  • AutoCAD or Microsoft experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Qualitative and Other Attributes Required:

  • Sr. Engineer – 4-10 years of experience in designing P&C engineering. PE Registration preferred
  • Very familiar with electrical schematic, designs and symbols
  • At least a 4 year engineering/technical degree. Professional License (PE) is a plus
  • Substation/P&C field experience is a plus
  • Utility and/or consulting engineering firm experience is a plus
  • AutoCAD or Microsoft experience is a plus
