5 Best Apps For Engineers

PowerWright Technologies

At PowerWright Technologies one of the things that makes us unique is that we’ve made a commitment to be a Green Company. With the new iPad being launched, there are a few apps every Engineer can use to make their lives a little easier.

At PowerWright one of our favorite note taking apps is GoodNotes. GoodNotes lets you take beautiful handwritten notes and annotate PDF documents. The handwritten notes are searchable and are created using a pioneering vector ink engine. Thanks to iCloud sync, your documents in GoodNotes will synchronize between your iPad and iPhone automatically.

Dropbox is a great app to keep all team members up-to-date, while providing immediate access to files and documents. DropBox lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Access any file you save to your Dropbox from all your computers, iPhone, iPad, and the web. With Dropbox you’ll always have your important memories and work with you.

Bubbli is a great app to capture 3d images on location. Only bubbles capture the world the way we see it – as one whole seamless environment – Photos and videos aren’t enough. Use bubbli to recreate the view that’s all around you.

TurboViewer X is a DWG viewer that supports both 2-D and 3-D CAD DWG files. The app allows multi-touch navigation as you pan, zoom, and 3-D orbit around your DWG and DXF files. To view drawing files, you can send an e-mail with the DWG or DXF attachments directly to your iPad. Drawing files can also be viewed through FTP, Dropbox, iCloud, and other cloud-based storage systems.

Engineering Professional is an app that is a good reference tool for any engineering student as it combines over 650 formulas in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, hydrology, and mechanical engineering that allow engineers to determine everything from calculations on shafts to calculation on loads on beams. In addition, there are 100 conversion formulas, as well as a section for determining area formulas.

PowerWright Welcomes New Hires

PowerWright Technologies
PowerWright would like to welcome Charles English, Stephanie Sullivan, and Juan Arriaga as the newest Engineers of our Transmission and Distribution department. Charles is a recent graduate of Florida International University, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Stephanie and Juan are recent graduates of Florida Atlantic University, both with a BS in Mechanical Engineering as well.
The group has been on rotation within the department to gain working knowledge of processes and then will be focused on recently awarded projects. We are excited about the energy and creativity they bring with them.

PowerWright Goes Paperless. Here’s How You Can Go Green Too

PowerWright Technologies
As awareness of the importance of the preservation of the environment is increasing, incentives to “go green” have moved beyond just lowering utility bills. PowerWright is committed to supporting this environmentally friendly effort by transitioning to a paperless office.  Company President, Jaimie Wright, has long been an advocate of a paperless office and has urged employees to embrace the change.  “It’s a whole philosophy that involves creating electronic files and then the proper management of them,” he says. This paradigm shift was initially difficult for some, but now has been adopted and is as commonplace as reading and sending emails.
One example is project files. Multiple page projects (most time 25+ pages) that were once printed many times by Engineers and support staff to review and markup are now printed to PDFs for correction using markup applications on computers and on company-issued iPads. The PDFs make the storage of the files easier and, subsequently locating them, much simpler and faster.
This change in process has reduced unnecessary waste and yields savings in paper usage and on other printing materials. “Going Paperless” has not only been limited to the printing of project documents, but has extended across the entire company. Reports, proposals, meeting agendas, handouts, etc. are all communicated electronically via PDFs.

New Corporate Office Completed

PowerWright Technologies

We are proud to announce that PowerWright Technologies, Inc. has opened its NEW doors for business! We’ve traversed the typical challenges that accompany construction and the results are a new state of the art corporate office.  We are still located in North Palm Beach, FL.

Since our start many years ago when we signed, sealed, and delivered our first project, our PowerWright family has grown significantly and a new problem surfaced – the need for more space.

We were pleased to welcome our clients, and the community as a whole, to our Open House which was held on May 8, 2015 and the response to our office facilities was outstanding.  Everyone quickly recognized our effort to move toward a green (paperless) office environment.  With large screen monitors in every conference room, we have been able to significantly reduce the need for any paper at our meetings.  Now that we are getting comfortable with our new space, our goal is to continue to be client focused and quality driven!

Report: Utilities Are Making Significant Investments in Transmission Infrastructure

PowerWright Technologies

A recent study by Edison Electric Institute (EEI) states Investor-owned electric utilities in the U.S. spent $16.9 billion in 2013 to build transmission infrastructure.

The ninth annual publication of the EEI’s Transmission Projects: At a Glance  highlights a cross-section of more than 170 major transmission projects completed in 2014 or planned over the next decade.

The report suggests that about 40% of investments planned are for large, interstate transmission projects while 46% are for projects that support the integration of renewable resources. About 26% is for projects where EEI member companies are collaborating with other utilities and 66% is for high-voltage projects of 345 kV and above.

The EEI says that since publication of the first report in 2007, the risks associated with transmission development have not diminished. Read the full story by Sonal Patel on here
